How to Connect LG TV to WiFi

LG Smart TVs can connect to the internet and this means that you can use your TV to browse the internet at home. This post is all about How to Connect LG TV to WiFi.

The internet connection also means that your TV can be turned into a streaming station. This way, you can view movies and TV shows on the TV screen.

This will boost entertainment at home since it will avail you the opportunity of watching your beloved TV programs on a wider screen than what your computer monitor can offer.

How to Connect LG TV to WiFi

The process of connecting your LG TV to WiFi is straightforward. We will provide you with stepwise details on how to do that below:

  • Pick your LG remote and click on SMART on the remote. You can also turn WIFI on your LG TV. You can then scroll through the Home menu that appears on the TV screen.
  • Next, tap on Settings and press Ok.
  • After that, tap on Network and then tap on Wi-Fi Connection
  • After doing that, the LG Smart TV will attempt to make the connection. However, it will first look for a wired network to connect to. Since there is no wired network connected to the smart TV, it will then look for a wired connection to connect to.
  • The TV will list out the wireless networks it can find and you will be required to pick the right one among them. In case your network is not among the ones on the list, move the router closer to the TV
  • Provide the password for the Wi-Fi network and tap on Connect. If you do not know how to find the password, you can connect with the experts at LG customer care and they will be most willing to guide you.
  • After providing the password, your LG Smart TV will connect to Wi-Fi.
  • You can check if you are connected to the internet by testing your Wi-Fi network and this can be done by pressing Home on the remote control. You can equally browse through the internet browser, streaming services, or app store on the TV to determine if the internet connection is working as desired.

The entire process described above should not take you more than just a few minutes.  To avoid delay while carrying out the process described above, you should first locate your password and write it down on a piece of paper so that you can easily access it when you are prompted to provide the password.

How to Connect LG TV to Wi-Fi

In case you have earlier hidden your Wi-Fi network, it may not appear on the list of Wi-Fi networks even if you bring the router closer to the TV.

To make the network appear, you should first tap the “Add a Hidden Wireless Network” option, which can be found in the Wi-Fi Network option.

This will enable you to insert the name and password of the Wi-Fi network you had hidden earlier and you can do this manually too.

What if I cannot connect to Wi-Fi?

If you find it difficult to connect the Wi-Fi network to the LG TV, the steps below can help you to troubleshoot and detect the problem:

  • Locate the Quickstart feature and turn it off. This can be done by taping on the Settings on the remote control and then selecting General. From the new menu, select Quickstart and continue pressing the center button on your remote until the Quickstart feature goes off.
  • The next step requires that you Power Cycle the TV. This can be done by first switching off the TV and unplugging it. After that, press the power button for up to 30 seconds
  • Power up the LG TV again
  • Then attempt to reconnect the TV to your Wi-Fi network

In case the steps given above fail to work, you can follow the steps given below to achieve this same purpose.

  • Tap on Settings on your remote control
  • Next, tap on All Settings
  • From the menu that comes up, navigate to General
  • Then tap on Time and Date
  • Check if the date and time setting on the TV are accurate with the current time and date.

You will not be able to connect to the Wi-Fi network if the time and date on the smart TV are not correct. This is especially the case in routers that have a lease expiration date.  You should correct the date and time before you can get the LG TV connected to the internet.

Check for LG TV software updates

If your LG TV is not connecting to the Wi-Fi network, it may be that the software is not updated.  The steps given below can help you to detect and correct the problem:

  • On the remote control, tap on Settings
  • Select All Settings and tap on General
  • Next, tap on About the TV
  • After that, select Check for Updates
  • You can now power cycle the TV as we have described above, after which you can turn the TV back on.

If you are unable to get a connection after you have done all that has been described above, then you should go for an Ethernet cable so that you can get your LG TV connected directly to the router.

If your modem or router is far from the TV, it is always better to use a direct Ethernet connection.

In case you are still unable to get the TV connected to the internet even after connecting an Ethernet cable, then it is time to turn off the internet modem and turn it on again.  You can equally press the WLAN button two times to enable you to rest the Wi-Fi network on your modem.

When purchasing an Ethernet cable, make sure you only buy a top-quality product. Some brands of Ethernet cables are reliable and you should go for such brands.

You can even test the Ethernet cable before you buy it to give assurance that it will serve the desired purpose when you use it at home.

There is a 100% assurance that one of the directions given above can help to resolve the internet connectivity problem of your LG TV. Connecting your LG smart TV to the internet makes it a more useful entertainment unit for your home.
