How to Factory Reset Google WiFi: Step-by-Step Guide

Resetting your goggle Wi-Fi devices can completely erase all the settings you currently have and can also erase your data. You need to bear this in mind before you proceed.

  • Open the Google Home application
  • Select Wi-Fi and then Settings
  • Go to factory reset network and tap on Ok.

How to reset your device using the Google WiFi app

Resetting your primary point and other point using the Wi-Fi app will delete all data and settings from your Wi-Fi point, Google Wi-Fi app, and Cloud services.  It will equally remove your Wi-Fi points from your Google account, as well as, your Wi-Fi network from the Google Wi-Fi app.

You will be required to use the Google Home app whenever you want to set up your Google device if you have used Google Wi-Fi app for managing the devices and resetting your router or points.

The instructions below can be of help if you migrate your Google Wi-Fi network to your Google Home app:

  • Open the Google Wi-Fi app
  • Select Settings and the actions tab
  • Then select Network & general
  • Look for Wi-Fi points under Network and select it
  • Next, select factory Reset on the screen and select factory Reset for confirmation
  • You will see a blue flash on the Wi-Fi point and the blue flash will change to solid blue. The entire process will not take more than 10 minutes.  You will have to wait for the reset to complete before you can add your Wi-Fi point to a new network.
  • After you have completed the process, you will see a message that reads “Reset is complete”. After that, your Google Wi-Fi point will pulse blue, indicating that you can now set it up.

Troubleshooting

If you find it difficult to rest your point or router, the information below can resolve the issue

You can find the reset button at the bottom of your router. It can be identified by a circle etched into the bottom. The information below can assist you in this regard

  • Select and hold down your Factory Reset button for up to 10 seconds.  You will see the light flashing yellow and changing to solid yellow.  You can now Release that button immediately after it turns solid yellow.
  • You must not disconnect the router from the power source throughout the entire reset process, which will take about 10 minutes of your time.
  • The light should change to white when the rest is complete.
  • After you have reset the device, it will still appear in your Google Home app. You can easily remove or set up the device again and even add any point

Make sure the button is not held for more than 10 seconds as prescribed above. If you hold it for a longer period, say over 15 seconds, the device will only flash yellow and the reset will not be successful. 

If you commit this error, simply disconnect the cord from the power source and let it remain unplugged for about 1 minute. You can then plug it in again and restart the process.

After resetting, all the current data and settings will be deleted from your device, but all the data collected and analyzed by Google will not be deleted.

They will be deleted automatically by Google after 6 months.  However, you can remove it instantly if you want to by visiting the Google Home app to do the reset. This can be done even if you are on an offline network.

If your device cannot connect to Google Wi-Fi or Nest Wi-Fi network, it may be because of the problems highlighted below:

  • The device itself has a problem and needs to be replaced
  • The network or internet has a problem and you need to connect with your internet service provider
  • The device is not within range and you need to improve on coverage
  • Some important device settings are off
  • The device’s WiFi password is wrong.
